ZAPI SpA was founded in 1975 by Ing. Giannino Zanichelli in Poviglio, a small town, near Reggio Emilia, in northern Italy. Ing. Zanichelli was motivated to invest in an engineering discipline – Electronic Engineering – the enormous potential of which, at the time, was only beginning to be glimpsed. In 1994, ZAPI reached a leadership position in the European market of control systems for electronic vehicles. That was accomplished not only in terms of sales volume, but also in terms of the level of technology incorporated in the controls.
In 1998, ZAPI, seeing strong expansion of its global market position, founded ZAPI Inc. to represent and support the North American market, with Mr. Bill Hamm as President. Between 2005 and 2007, Mr. Matteo Donelli assumed the Presidency as a strong liaison for ZAPI SpA. In 2007, Mr. Chris Murphy, formerly the North American Sales Manager, was named President and immediately injected a new vision and focus for the company. Since then, ZAPI Inc. has become a well-respected player in the North American market of electronic motor controls.
